Thoughts: Why are you so stuck?

Have you ever met a person that looks like a horse wearing blinders? I don't mean their facial features, but how they interact with people. Not exactly the typical 'my way or the high way' personality but more of a 'there's a way other than mine??'.

This equine personality is unwilling or I imagine at one level incapable of the metaphorical putting on of another's shoes. As if this mahan vyakti has descended from the Grimm brother's Cinderella.

A pro at playing the victim, a connoisseur in antagonizing people and the master of ugly looks and cryptic words. They are the easiest to tick off, just walk in, ask them a simple question, and they take that personally.  How does one tackle this?

From a person who has dealt with such intriguing personalities on several occassions, it is important to remember and accept the truth as you know it. The narrative created by them need not become what happened. And secondly, know that it is not about you at all. Someone taking offense at what you did is not your problem

But, please note, this statement must not be taken out of context. If you just told a dark-skinned person to 'Use Fair and Lovely. Rishtha nahi aayega.' and they take offense, do not run to me for help.

What I am trying to convey here, is to not let another person's view of a situation become yours. Be aware of your actions and what you do. If you make a mistake, apologise and forgive yourself. You don't need validation.

  1. Arre wah. Well said Anjali. That's their narrative. Not to take it personally. Saves much time and energy and unnecessary emotional upheaval. As the 'Four Agreements says -'You take it personally because you agree with whatever is said. And once you take it personally, the poison goes through you. What causes you to be trapped is 'personal importance' - that everything is about 'you'.'

  2. Nicely put , Anjali. Many people go along through their lives wearing the proverbial blinders , merrily unaware but blissfully cruising along. Or perhaps refusing to acknowledge and accept. They rear up in righteous indignation if the matter is brought their notice.
