DEEWAR

October 11th was Amitabh Bacchan's 80th birthday. Amitabh Bacchan bhi na, what a man!

That's the life I want to live. He became an actor, he become the most popular one of his time and times after him. Apart from Amitabh Bacchan, how many 70s actors can a teenager name? He's stayed relevant through his consistent work and devotion to art. From hero to father to now grandfather, he's done it all. And as I learnt from my Hindi teacher, he has a way with words.

PVR decided to do a Amitabh Bacchan rewatch festival, and we hurriedly booked 'Deewar'. The theatre was packed and we got seats right in the front rows. The crowd was mostly middle-aged, but as soon as the credits began rolling, you could sense them getting younger.

The film was undoubtedly entertaining, with Shashi Kapoor and Amitabh Bacchan representing the dark and the light. Amitabh Bacchan's wide range of emotions was almost as wide as his bellbottom pant leg. It was mesmerising to see a bunch of 70s teens scream at the screen as Amitabh Bacchan delivered his dialogues and as Parveen Babi entered the picture. I joined the screaming, and seemed to be the only 15-year-old there to do so.

VIKRAM VEDHA

As a break from the strenuous day-to-day that is Class 10, eight of our classmates decided to catch a break with Vikram Veda. In this thriller with philosophical undertones, Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan were two sides of the coin of morality. The background music added to the frighteningly attractive theme. While it was a little gory, the plot twists and the essential theme of the movie were totally worth it. With some whistle-worthy action scenes at the end, we were expecting an incredible finish. The movie ends with Vikram and Vedha, holding a gun to each other's head. It's up to you to decide what 'good' means to you.

I've always believed that ideas that disturb people, instead of dictate to them, are the ones that bring change.
